Steven Brown Art and Lifestyle
On Assignment at Steven Brown Art and Lifestyle Store Opening Night
A cold, very wet and windy evening at the end of September found me on assignment for the Ayrshire Magazine covering the glamorous opening night of Steven Brown's first Art and Lifestyle store in Newmarket Street, Ayr. Arriving early, I managed a wee sneaky peak inside before the crowds gathered and I was immediately wowed by how fabulous the store was. From outside the black surround and the Steven Brown signature above the doorway instantly draws your eye and is a real classy store front to the street. Inside the impact of Steven's artwork really takes your eye with all the bright colours and seemingly endless variety of products featuring Steven's signature works; his McCoo series featuring prominently throughout the store along with a specially commissioned metal McCoo sculpture that greets you when you enter the store.
As time neared for the grand opening, the crowds starting queuing and were entertained by the rousing tribal drums from the well known Glasgow band Clanadonia who really helped set the scene and built the excitement.
Steven was so excited to open the store that in a flash he'd cut the big red bow blocking the doorway and was inside the store welcoming his guests with a great big friendly smile. The guest kept coming and soon packed the store, I reckon there were well over two hundred guests that night which was great to see and created a fantastic buzz.
I'd been following Steven on Facebook and there was always something familiar about him that I couldn't quite get a handle on. So as soon as we met he said the same about me and it turns out that we grew up together in the same estate in Kilmarnock. Steven's a bit younger than me so we didn't run around with the same friends but I definitely remembered him once we got talking. Small world indeed.
Products from Steven's store are available to buy online as well as in store and there are always fantastic offers to be found. Get yourself down to Newmarket Street in Ayr though for a browse round, it's a super shop and great products.
Many thanks to Steven and his business partner Craig and their wives for allowing me free reign during the opening night and I wish them continued success and we'll be looking out for good things happening in the future.
You'll be able to see more images and read the article in issue 13 - Winter of the Ayrshire Magazine and you'll find it on page 26. It's a great magazine and well worth a read. It is available for free at many stores and coffee shops throughout Ayrshire so pick up your copy when you see one.
